Alice Mary Walker Alice Mary Walker was born to English pioneers Joe and Alice (Lloyd) Haden on February 29, 1920 in Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital. She passed away in the same Health Care Complex 92 years later, on August 22, 2012. Alice called Castor her home for all but two years of her life when she resided at Coronation Continuing Care. She attended school in the old sandstone building and worked in local businesses: Spratt's Dry Goods Store, the Red & White Bakery, Castor Creek Collieries, Joe Bain's Furniture Store and the County Office. Alice met her future husband Bob Walker, while they were both employed by Castor Creek Collieries. They were married September 9, 1947 and raised one daughter, Kathy. Alice was predeceased by her parents, two infant siblings, brother Blake, and her husband Bob. She is loved by daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Larry Weber; granddaughters and their husbands, Tricia and Nathan Kirby and Jane and Scott Butler; great granddaughters Amy and Megan Kirby. She will also be remembered by cousins in Britain: Tricia Perkins, Dorothy Parkes, Margaret Browne, Ruth Wright, Willie and Ena Matthew; and by a faithful friend, Esme Ouellette. Alice enjoyed a long life, but unfortunately struggled with increasing physical challenges in her last years. Her kindness and generosity were reflected in a poem that she learned from her mother: "Do the work that's nearest, though it's done at whiles, Helping, when you meet them, lame dogs over stiles." A private celebration of Alice’s life was held on Friday, August 24, 2012 at the Parkview Funeral Chapel in Castor, Alberta with Reverend Barbara Zimmerman officiating. Alice was laid to rest at the Castor Municipal Cemetery beside her husband Robert. If friends desire memorial donations may be made in memory to a charity of choice c/o Parkview Funeral Chapels & Crematorium, Box 186, Castor, Alberta T0C 0X0.
