Obituary of Norman John Hewitt
Please share a memory of Norman to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Norman J. Hewitt passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the age of 87 years. Born on May 26, 1924, he grew up during the settlement of the Bulwark area. Norman, his parents and sister lived and farmed in Bulwark. The Hewitt family valued the importance of education and Norman was shuffled around the various school houses of the area until he reached his grade twelve year. Taking after his father, Norman decided to dedicate his life to farming and raising Purebred Herford Cattle. In 1954 he married a local girl named Natalie Spady. Together they welcomed four daughters into their lives, Barbara, Joan, Norma and Shirley. Norman was not a complicated man, he knew what was important to him and that was all that mattered. He valued hard work, family and animals. It is because of a lifetime of hard work that Norman had the strength to survive with a debilitating lung disease for as long as he did. He was a cornerstone for his girls, always there as a pillar for their family. He will be greatly missed by all that are survived by him. Norman had a soft spot for his animals and it was evident in the long talks with his canine companions and the pitch-fork scratches for the cattle. His unique personality and ‘to the point’ demeanor will be remembered in the hearts of those who knew him.
Norman was predeceased by his sister Dorothy Hewitt; his parents Robert and Isabella; granddaughters Brandi Gamroth and Teckla Anderson. He is survived by his wife Natalie of almost 58 years; daughters and their husbands Barbara Hewitt, Joan (Brian) Dyki, Norma Hewitt, Shirley Hewitt (Rod Anderson); his grandchildren: Jarvis (Lynda) Gamroth, Scott (Vanessa) Dyki, Mark Dyki, Maegan (Jeffrey) Peacock, Cassidy Leach, Desirae Hewitt-Anderson and Carter Hewitt-Anderson; his great grandchildren Easton and Barrett Gamroth and Jordan Dyki; his sister Patricia (Wes) Campbell; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
A celebration of Norman's life was held at the Castor Community Hall, Castor, Alberta with Mr. Walter Blume officiating. Memorial donations in memory of Norman are gratefully accepted tp S.T.A.R.S., Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital Foundation or a charity of choice.
