Teddy (Ted) Edward Gabert passed away suddenly on November 27, 2011 at his home at the age of 76 years, 4 months, and 5 days. Ted was born in Castor on June 22, 1935; the eldest son of Edward and Louise Gabert. He attended school in a small country school and was raised on the farm outside of Castor. In 1960 Ted married Lynn Patterson. To this union, two children were born, Shannon and Robert. In 1971 Ted met what would be his life long partner Therese Allen. Ted spent his life in Castor. He worked hard cleaning corrals, digging basements, ditches and demolishing buildings. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and the odd time he could even be found in a tent ice fishing. He enjoyed touring the countryside checking out the crops and watching wildlife on Sundays. He loved to feed the birds in the winter and watch them out the window in the dining room. Ted and Therese spent their free time camping where they were long time summer residents of Willowgrove Campground near Bashaw. He enjoyed spending his time with family and spoiling his grandchildren. Ted could often be found with the grandchildren feeding the ducks or at the ice cream stand. In the winter time, he was found at the hockey arena cheering on Clinton and Brandon. Ted was predeceased by his father Edward in 1994 and his sister in law Joan in 1987. He is survived by his partner Therese Allen; mother Louise Gabert; two children Shannon Gabert and Robert Gabert; four stepchildren: Laverne Allen, Teny (Darrell) Lang, Roberta (Wayne Smith), and Lorne (Annette) Allen; five grandchildren Courtney McCarvill, Evan McCarvill, Clinton Allen, Brandon Allen, Jordan and Jaxon Allen as well as numerous step grandchildren; one brother Len (Ellie) Gabert, and one sister Arlene (Bud) Morrison as well as nieces and nephews. Private family funeral service was held at Castor Municipal Cemetery, on Thursday, December 1, 2011 where he was laid to rest in the Gabert family plot. Memorial donation may be made in Ted’s name to Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital Foundation and would be appreciated by the family.
