Kaj Guldberg

May 19, 1940 – June 20, 2026

Kaj Guldberg was born to Georg and Anna Guldberg on May 19, 1940, in the village of Lyne, West Jutland, Denmark. He passed away peacefully at the Drumheller Regional Health Centre on June 20, 2026, at the age of 86.

Kaj spent his early years on the family farm near Lyne alongside his parents and siblings. After completing his schooling in Denmark, he fulfilled his mandatory military service before working as a pig consultant, travelling to farms throughout Denmark to assess and record the weights and measurements of market hogs in the weeks leading up to shipment.

On March 23, 1964, Kaj immigrated to Canada by ship in search of new opportunities. Upon arriving, he worked for Svend and Leda Jensen near Hussar, Alberta, where he became part of the Hussar and Dalum communities.

A few years later, Kaj began farming in the Byemoor area, where he met Doreen Beth Reynolds, the love of his life. Although his original plan had been to return to Denmark, to possibly take over the family farm, those plans changed after meeting Doreen. They were married on October 31, 1970, and together shared more than 55 years of marriage. Soon after, they settled in Dalum, where they built their farming operation and raised their two children, Lila and Ian. Kaj farmed in the Dalum area until his retirement in 1994.

Kaj will be remembered as a quiet, hardworking man whose greatest joys in life were his family, his farm, and the community he proudly called home. Farming was far more than a livelihood to Kaj, it was his passion and a way of life. He took immense pride in the land he cultivated, the farm he built alongside Doreen, and the values of hard work and perseverance that shaped his life. Above all, he treasured his family. Nothing brought him greater happiness than watching his children and grandchildren grow and seeing the family continue through the generations. Whether lending a helping hand, visiting with neighbours, or simply enjoying time with family and friends, Kaj's gentle nature, unwavering work ethic, quiet humour, and steady presence left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Kaj is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Doreen Beth Guldberg of Rosedale, Alberta; his daughter, Lila Reber (Gordon Reber) of Red Deer, Alberta; his son, Ian Guldberg (Jennifer Guldberg) of Dalum, Alberta; and his cherished grandchildren, Natasha Symons, Shyanna Reber, Owen Guldberg, and Mykaela Guldberg.

Kaj is also survived by his sisters, Inga Guldberg and Grethe Guldberg Jensen, and his brother, Viggo Guldberg, all of Denmark. He was predeceased by his sisters, Ruth Guldberg and Edith Mortensen.

A funeral service celebrating Kaj's life will be held at Dalum Bethlehem Church on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow at the Rosedale Community Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dalum Bethlehem Church Memorial Fund.
