Ruth Nishioka (Timms)

1934 ~ 2026

Ruth Yvonne Nishioka (née Timms) passed away April 6, 2026 in La Jolla, California. Born on November 10, 1934 in Stettler, Alberta, Canada, she was the only child of Albert and Eva Timms (née Rowledge) of Erskine, Alberta.

Ruth grew up on the Erskine family farm before earning two diplomas in Education at The University of Alberta at Edmonton in 1957. She spent several years teaching in Edmonton before moving to the United States with her first husband, Dr. Robert T. Morrison, and their two children. She permanently emigrated to the United States with her second husband, Dr. Hiro Nishioka. They had two more children and raised their blended family in Green Bay, Wisconsin for over thirty years. Ruth was a homemaker for many years before owning several businesses in Wisconsin, including a couple of vintage clothing stores. She partnered often with the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay’s theatre department, lending period costumes to their productions. Later in life, she returned to teaching in South Texas, tutoring children after school at a Kumon learning center and working at local libraries, where she helped with the Friends’ and Reading Rooms.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Hiro; children Robert, Christina, Thomas and Karolyn, and eight grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her first husband Robert. A plaque memorializing Ruth will be installed at The Timms Centre at the University of Alberta, Edmonton in summer of 2026, and a portion of her ashes will be interred in the Timms family plot at the Erskine Cemetery on June 27, 2026 at 4 p.m. The rest of her ashes will be interred in the Nishioka family crypt on the island of Shikoku, Japan, in 2027.
