Obituary of Lawrence John Zinger
Lawrence John Zinger
December 27, 1929 - May 21, 2026
Lawrence John Zinger of Castor Alberta, beloved husband of Ethel Zinger, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026 at Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital, Castor Alberta, at the age of 96 years. He was born on December 27, 1929 at Castor Alberta. He grew up with seven other siblings. He is the last survivor of the Zinger family.
The most important part of his life was the love he had for his wife – Ethel. They were married, July 28, 1952 – 73 years of love.
His occupation was a baker. This involved very early mornings. He taught all of us from very young, work hard, then play.
From an early age he enjoyed skiing. He helped build the first ski hill – Heatherly Valley, and when that became too small, he found a new one, named Castor Valley Ski club. He taught many how to ski and to embrace life fully and fearlessly. He also loved to water ski, so he built his own boat. And again, he taught many to enjoy this sport. Later in life, they bought a motorhome and took up camping, hiking and golfing. They walked the course as exercise was part of the experience. Then later, they bought a catamaran and he loved the thrill that it brought.
Lawrence believed in his community and was an Elks member for many years, going through all the chairs. He was on the Hospital Board for many years. He was very involved in his church. At the age of 90, he spent countless hours at the cemetery, rebuilding grave sites, and clearing trees. He never stopped moving, never stopped helping and never stopped caring. When asked how he was his answer was always 100%.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel and four children: June (Louis) Perreault, Rod (Linda) Zinger, Kent (Shauna) Zinger and Mitchell (Jo) Zinger; grandchildren: Lynnette (Greg) Rosgen, Corissa (Paul) Saumur, Aaron (Michelle) Perreault, Curtis Zinger, Nicole Zinger (David), Chris (Kelly) Zinger, Blair (Melisa) Zinger and Adam (Christina); great grandchildren: Braelynn, Alexa, Tristyn, Angie, Nate, Madelyn, Sadie, Owen, Mia, Luke and James; along with numerous other family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Joseph Herbert and Louisa Zinger; siblings: Walter, Laura, Loretta, Clarence, Ida, Herbert and George.
