Don was predeceased by parents Art and Mae Saar; wife Gloria Saar; infant son Ronald Arthur Saar; grandsons Keith Siemens and Nolan Lattery.
Don spent his entire life at the farm, with the exception of a few winters working on the oil rigs. The most important thing on the ranch was the cattle, in which he had a great eye for. A proud moment for him came in 2012, when he was awarded Commercial Cattleman of the year from the Alberta Hereford Assoc. And of course, with the cattle, came the Auction Market. He could be found there every Tuesday, and this continued into his retirement. The time spent trying to get someone else to pay for coffee and talking a lot of bull really made him happy. He was always writing down the prices and sharing with anyone that would listen.
When work ended on the ranch, his next biggest passion started. Don Saar Furs. He was very proud of his accomplishments, from having the highest selling pelts, to becoming one of the biggest fur dealers in Alberta. He loved the dealing and the work that it entailed, but mostly the wonderful people he encountered during this time. He always said, “ the coyotes will rest a lot easier when I’m gone”. Along with all of this, there was always time for a good goose hunt. The time spent in a goose blind with good friends always made him smile.
He was very community-minded, offering himself in many different roles. Years with the BV Ag Society, calling bingo, member of the Fenn Era, Feeders Assoc., BV Rec Board. He was given the Buster Brown Award for years of community service to the County of Stettler. He also enjoyed his work with the BV Oil Kings as scorekeeper.
The Saar family would like to thank all the caring and compassionate staff at the Stettler Hospital for their wonderful care of Don. They are truly incredible people.
A special thank you to Rob and Kim and Staff at the BV Inn for keeping the coffee on.
