Obituary of Stanley Victor Pearson

Please share a memory of Stanley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Stanley Victor Pearson was born on March 27, 1934 in Edmonton, Alberta to parents John and Eleanor Pearson. His name came from a longstanding family connection with Derby Estates in England and Ireland - most notably with the 16th Earl of Derby, who was the 6th Governor General of Canada and creator of the Stanley Cup. It is little wonder, then, that he grew up loving the sport.  He was raised in the town of Bashaw where he attended school, worked in his father’s mercantile, participated in many sporting activities, and enjoyed the benefits that small town living affords.

Upon graduation, Stan went to work for the Royal Bank. While he wasn't completely enamored with this occupation, it took him to Pincher Creek where he met a distracting young bank teller who quickly won his heart.  Stan and Faye were engaged and married within a year.

The young couple soon moved to Calgary where their first daughter, Vicki Faye, was born in 1957.  Three more daughters joined the family in fairly rapid succession - Karen Colleen in 1959, Sharalynn in 1961, and Vernelle Arlene in 1963.  Each daughter was born in a different community as the Royal Bank transferred Stan to many locations in Alberta.

It was when the family lived in High Prairie that Stan committed his life to the Lord Jesus Christ.  He said this was “undoubtedly the most right and important decision [he] ever made in [his] life - becoming a true child of God.” He served the Lord with gladness taking on various leadership roles throughout his life. His family always enjoyed his prayers of thanksgiving before meals, although he was sometimes admonished for going on too long while the food got cold.

After leaving the bank in 1967, Stan went on to many and varied careers over the years.  He retired in 1999 while working as the office manager of Action Plumbing in Stettler.  Retirement presented opportunities to travel and to explore family history with Faye. They enjoyed gardening together and had a beautiful yard with flowers and trees. They also enjoyed hosting family and friends on many occasions.

When Faye passed away in 2022, Stan moved to High River to a care facility. He was visited almost daily by his daughter, Vicki, who advocated for his care and who ensured his days were meaningful.  He suffered from Parkinson’s disease which affected his mobility but his mind remained sharp.  He loved sharing history, reading poetry, listening to stories read aloud, seeing and visiting with family. His final days were difficult with cancer and Parkinson’s disease taking their toll on his body.  He went to be with his Lord and Saviour on the evening of May 02, 2026.

He will be missed and leaves to mourn his passing, his children: Vicki (Harley) Richardson, Colleen Bushman, Sharalynn (Phillip) Anderson; grandchildren: Janelle (Paul) Kennedy, Michael (Candace) Richardson, Scott Richardson, Bradon (Tammy) Bushman, Nicole (Matthew) Jeremiah, Cailyn (Zachary) Boodt, Camille (Roy) Hutton, Cassandra Anderson, Michelle Roach, Jared Roach; great grandchildren: Brayden, Jordan Kennedy, Shana (Brad) Schakel, Macey (Bradley) Trancygier, Jared (Natalea), Dara, Kent Bushman, Georgia, Huck, Lucy Jeremiah, Sadie, Emma, Arie Boodt, Olivia, Layne, Shasta Hutton, Violet Burrke; great great grandchildren: Tate, Molly Schakel, Maxon Bushman, Wesley Trancygier; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.

Stan was predeceased by parents John and Eleanor Pearson, wife Dorothy Faye Pearson, daughter Vernelle Roach, infant great grandchild Molly Bushman, brother Ronald, brother Glenn and sister-in-law Kathy, sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Don Popowich, niece Wendy Medley, nephew Blake Pearson, father-in-law and mother-in-law Hugh Cozart and Lillian Davis.
