Diane Ecklund (Hegland)

April 07, 1943 - May 02, 2026

Diane passed away suddenly in the Stettler Hospital at the age of 83 years.

She was born to Phyllis and Russel Hegland on April 07, 1943 in the Carmangay hospital.  Diane grew up in Champion, Alberta where she attended the Champion school grades 1-12.  She was the eldest of three children being predeceased by her younger brothers Gordon Hegland and Barry Hegland.

Diane married Lorne Ecklund on November 03, 1962.  They went on to have three children, Brian, Brent and Cheryl.  As a family they lived in various locations and eventually settled down in Stettler, Alberta.

Diane worked as a home support aide and later as a co-ordinator for FCSS Home Support.  She volunteered, attending many casino fundraisers, doing books, Meals on Wheels and also served on the Handi bus Society Board from 2009 until present.  Being an advocate for home support and the Handi bus was a passion for her.

Diane’s most recent joy was keeping up with all of her grandkids and her two great grandsons, sharing pictures and stories as they all grew.  Changing her photo wall was a constant activity as new pictures took the places of the older ones.

She will be sadly missed by Lorne, her husband of 63 years; her son Brian (Glennis) and grandson, Myles (Brooklyn); son Brent and grandson Rhys; daughter Cheryl (Chris); granddaughter Jordan (Jessy) Bairnes and great grandsons, Oliver and Theodore; granddaughter Samantha (Jordan) Nagy; as well as her numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

The family would like to extend a huge thank you to the staff at the Red Deer hospital and especially to the staff at the Stettler hospital as they made a very sad and difficult time as accommodating and comfortable as possible.

In the Summer A Celebration of Life Will Be Held.

Details to be announced when finalized.
