John Bishop - gone to soon Sir! To this day I don't think I have ever met a more welcoming couple than John and Diane! Their home was always open for a visit, with John always ready to pour a rumsicle and share a story or two. I had the pleasure of working with John as an A/Cst in Stettler, there were many ride-alongs with lots of laughs and stories along the way! Susan and I wish to express our condolences to Diane, James and Tracey. You will be missed Sir!

John Bishop - there’s so much to say about such a special person. He was the glue that kept the Stettler detachment together for 22 years. He was well respected by the members and local citizens alike.
He welcomed the new members to the office and he and Diane were the first to invite the new members into their home for a get acquainted bevie and delicious meal. A hard worker, a cool head, always in control of the situation. He was a trainer to many and a mentor to all. Away from the office he was always eager to lend a helping hand to others for whatever project they had on the go. So many great stories,
Bish isms, and memorable times together.
You are gone way too soon John and we will miss you.
Rest easy and cheers buddy.

I also met John when I was posted to Cardston in the 70’s. That posting that shake your core but also bond with other members. A life long bond that few would understand. Due to personal reasons I lost contact with John Diane over the past years. The news that a member you worked with, who took you under their wing. Who treated you like family. Is a true lose to all who knew John.
My deepest sympathy to D and the family

To Diane , James , and Tracey, I am So sorry for your loss.
John was the best partner I had during my 30 years of service as a Mountie. Just as some of the other members have indicated
Cardston in the late 70's and early 80's was a sometimes turbulent place to do policing. However, it was always the "Bishop House" with Diane and John providing refuge on days off or after-shift gatherings. Good Times, Good Food, and Good Friends
remembered for a lifetime.
I am truly honoured to have had John as a friend and co-worker , remembering those numerous trips into "Big Sky Country"
So long for now Bish ......

Counting the days until John’s annual trip home, does he have all his spices to cook his wonderful well planned meals, locating the lobster truck, after the text “ you guys up for a P.E.I. Trip?” a family trip. Diane’s phone call forever changed my world. My brother was my support, my rock, our fixer and our planner. His thoughtfulness, generosity to his family and friends was above and beyond. To never have those big arms give me another bear hug, to never receive a weekly “How’s it going" text breaks my heart. There are not enough words. To Diane, Tracey, Kaia, Chase and James my thoughts and love go out to you as you face your loss in the days ahead. You are not alone he is with you always. Sharon

My Papa was, and within our memory likely still is, one of the strongest, kindest, and most loving grumpy old men you could ever have the pleasure of knowing. Whether he was a friend, family, co-worker, or a stranger you shared brief conversation with, you can attest to that fact.
My entire life he was always a shoulder to lean on, and at all times had an ear to the ground for the people he loved and cared about. Between unprompted personalized road reports, tangentially relevant Facebook Marketplace listings, "Papa Reminders", and an endless amount of other things, he made well sure that his love was never to be mistaken or misjudged.
One of the photos I've submitted alongside this writing is a photo I took of him overlooking the horizon at Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia. While it's certainly not the most visually striking photo, I've always felt strongly that it represented him in a very transparent way. Even when framed against the vast emptiness of the Atlantic Ocean, the historical "Edge Of The World", John Bishop, my Papa, stands firmly at attention.
A towering and unwavering visage of strength, reliance, and compassion.
Wherever he may be now, none of that has changed; Perhaps even empowered. Unbound from the mortal coil, free to live within our memory until the end of eternity, guiding us along the way when we need it most.

There are so many things I could say about my Papa, but what matters most is how deeply he is, and always will be loved. He was tough in all the ways that mattered, but his compassionate heart is what truly defined him. There was no questioning his love for you, everything he did, said, or didn’t say, was enough. Not a day has gone by where I haven’t thought about him, and that will never change. Everything I do, or question, I hear his voice in the back of my mind with an answer. Papa always had an answer. There is not a single time where he wasn’t there for me, just as there was never a simple solution, he always went above and beyond. There are a million memories I hold close to my heart, and a million things he has done for me that I can never thank him enough for. I miss you and I love you so so much Papa ❤️

It warms my heart to see everyone's memories of my Dad, though I hate that it's here. The impact he had on so many people's lives will be his legacy but none so much as the way he loved the people he loved who will carry on the Bish'isms, since in our world it was law. There are not enough words to express the things we learned from him the memories and how we learned to be strong while just being a good human being. As well as renewing your vehicle registration on time and keeping a full tank of gas! He will forever be the voice of reason, love and encouragement in everything we do and will be missed in unimaginable ways every day. I was blessed with the best Dad and Papa to my kids that a girl could ask for ❤️

John was a great colleague back in ‘man land’ where we shared offices and many fun times together at the County of Stettler. I will always remember John’s practical advice:
1. When you’re not making money, you’re spending money!
2. A good house is never done…
Many fond memories of the Christmas parties that he and Diane hosted at their house and the County staff campout weekends.
Thinking of you Diane and trusting your own fond memories will bring comfort in your sorrow.

I first met John while policing in Cardston in the late 70's. Cardston, at that time was not for the faint of heart. It was a place where members could really develop their policing skills. John was an excellent investigator who mentored and developed less experienced members with true compassion and professionalism. He was a member who could be counted and depended on and was a true team player. He was a person that you will never forget and brought out the best in everyone. I am proud to say that I knew and worked with John both as a member of the RCMP and as a friend. May you Rest in Peace Bish.

Policing in Cardston in the late 70's was not for everyone. Most of us back then were youngsters - and we greatly relied on our fellow Constables for safety and friendship. We were, for better or worst, a family. And John and Diane were so much a part of that feeling. Thinking of John brings back so many memories and smiles.....you'll be missed, Bish.

I first met "Cst Bishop" exactly three weeks after getting my drivers license ... he had a very profound way of suggesting that I might want to change my driving habits.
Fast forward seven years ... as an Aux/Cst, I had the great honour of having him as a mentor & patrol partner during my four years stint w/ the Stettler Detachment. John was also instrumental in the application process for me to become a regular member & it seemed he was as excited to find out I was going to Depot as I was.
Our visits grew fewer & farther apart as Bonnie-Ann & I embarked on our own policing career traveling around Alberta & Saskatchewan w/ the Mounties. John & Di were always eager to say hi & catch-up even after years of not seeing each other & John always had the firmest handshake when we did.
God Bless John ... your shift is over!!

John and our family were all posted to Cardston where we had our first son and we were invited to Dinner to share one of Diane Ukranian specials. The baby decided it was time to nurse so I hung back and stayed in the living room. John insisted I join them all any way stating in this house we all eat together. I luv that man.

I am so devastated to hear of John's sudden passing. He was my "Stettler Dad" when I moved there fresh out of Depot from Cape Breton and he and Diane took care of me, making sure I was always well fed and introduced me to so many wonderful people. He taught me many great lessons and was always there to back me up - whether on shift or not. I hold dear many of the delightful "Bish-isms" that made John truly one-of-a-kind. He will be missed by so many in Stettler. So sorry to Diane and all his family and friends.

Heartbroken to learn of Johnny’s passing. I met him 30 years ago when I began my RCMP career in Stettler, and I quickly realized how fortunate I was to be partnered with—and mentored by—one of the very best. While my time in Stettler was short, our relationship was not. His mentorship, protection, and love continued over the years, and I will deeply miss our chats and the wisdom of “life according to Bish.” John’s passing leaves an immense void in the lives of all who loved him and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. The world was truly a better place because of Johnny B.
Diane and James, I’m sending love and heartfelt acknowledgment that you are a huge part of what made John who he was. The love and generosity you give so freely have touched so many lives. Hugs and love to you as you navigate this incredibly difficult time and life without John’s physical presence.
Tracey, Chase, and Kaia — your Dad and Grandpa loved you so deeply and was so proud of you. Sending love as you find your way through this time and learn to live without his physical presence.

Diane and family. My deepest sympathies to you in this difficult time of loss. I cannot imagine our world without his soft, generous loving soul. So many memories of times together in Cardston where we first formed such strong bonds of friendship and everlasting love. I Remember one visit when we first moved to Kamloops and Diane and John arrived. They took charge and the ladies set up the kitchen and the men the beds. Then we all went for a swim and Rudy called out "I wonder what the poor people are doing" ? John replied " They are swimming in your f*king pool! Classic John. This world is definitely a poorer place without Sir John in it. He was a likable, affable, smart, perceptive, and honest guy. He epitomized the old adage “What you see is what you get!”
Easily recalled are the countless nights when “the squad” gathered downstairs at the Bishops to sing the night away with Farewell to Nova Scotia always being the lead song. The best of memories. And the many ride-alongs and resulting experiences were wonderful. Johnny’s subtle but sharp grinning wit suited his policing style to a T. Suited him to a T. He was a gentle soul never to be forgotten. I am blessed to have had him as a friend.

Pat and I were heartbroken to hear of John's passing. This page simply isn't big enough to share all the wonderful memories we have since first meeting him when he arrived in Stettler in 1984. Some of the best memories in our life have been with John and Diane over the years, whether it be camping trips, the trip to Great Falls or just socializing with them. John and Diane went above and beyond to make you feel welcome in their home. He had a heart of gold and was always first in line to help others. I thoroughly enjoyed working with John and consider him to be one of the finest policemen I have ever met. He was a wonderful man and a true friend.
