Geraldine Marie Klassen

1939 - 2026

Geraldine Marie Klassen passed away peacefully in her home in Castor, Alberta on Sunday, April 19th, 2026 at the age of 86 after battling cancer.  She was the 11th child of 12, born on June 29,1939 on a family farm near Attica, SK to her parents John and Mary Knaus.  Geraldine was raised on the family farm, educated at Sydenham School and enjoyed family life working, playing the piano, listening to music, dancing, attending a country church, walking and playing cards. She worked in Oyen, AB at the age of 17 as a healthcare cleaner for one year at the Oyen Hospital and returned to the family farm in Sk. 

Geraldine married her husband Joseph Klassen on July 3, 1958 in Burr, SK. They lived in SK, BC and AB and eventually settled in Castor, AB where they opened the Klassen Plumbing & Gasfitting Ltd. business.  Geraldine worked as the Office Manager and bookkeeper. 

She became active in the community serving on the Theresetta School Board, CWL, Book Club, Weight Watchers, the Castor Curling Club, Toastmasters and walking group.  She retired in 2000 from the business and enjoyed her retirement with Joe.  They travelled to Germany, Switzerland, Argentina, Alaska, US and the Maritimes.  She had a loving heart, vivacious spirt for life, a deep faith in God, bright smile and hard working ethic.  Geraldine was a devoted caregiver providing compassionate care, comfort, prayers and support to her husband, family and friends.

 Geraldine will be dearly missed by her husband Joe, their five children, Shelley, Linda (Omar Coria) and their children Garnet (Salina) their two children Luca and Elio and Rolanda (Danny), Gerald (Kathy) and their two children Brandon (Andrea) and their three children Maverick, Maxwell and Myles and Chantelle (Adam) and their daughter Finley, Sandra (Paul McGillis) and their three children Caleb (Saidy), Jaimie (Evan) and Kurtis and Garnet (Rose) and their two daughters Lilly and Ruby, brothers Vince and Peter (Edith) and other family and friends.  

Vigil Prayer Service will be held at the Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Castor, Alberta on Friday, April 24 at 7:00 pm (Rosary at 6:40 pm)

Funeral Mass at the Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Castor, Alberta on Saturday, April 25 at 1:00 pm with lunch to follow at the Castor Community Hall.

Memorial Donations may be made to the Our Lady of The Rosary Hospital Foundation, Castor, Alberta or to a charity of choice.
