Debbie Irwin

January 11, 1956 – April 15, 2026

Perhaps the warmest people are born on the coldest days. Debbie Irwin, born on a blustery January day in 1956, lived a life defined by a softness that never hardened, regardless of the challenges she faced.

Debbie grew up in Stettler, graduating from W.E. Hay High School before she moved on to Olds College, where she studied fashion design and graduated with distinction. After college, Debbie was recruited by Chez Cloth to manage franchises across the prairies, including Winnipeg and Blairmore. She later settled in Red Deer to run her own mending and clothing repair business, where she lived for forty years. She was a gifted creator; her physical legacy lives on in cross stitched art, heirloom doll clothes, and handmade blankets that now warm a second generation of her family. To Debbie, every stitch was a quiet way to say, "I love you."

Despite significant health struggles, Debbie chose to stay bright rather than bitter. To her family, she was warm, involved, and always a text away. She loved animals - especially owls and always found a way to appreciate the beauty in life. Whether she was sharing a cup of tea, texting family to cheer for the Edmonton Oilers or Toronto Raptors, or sending well wishes on special occasions, Debbie was an active, joyful participant in the lives of those she loved.

We will miss Debbie greatly but will carry her warmth with us always.

Debbie is survived by her loving family. Siblings: James (Colleen), Marie (Ross), John (Debby), and MaryJane (Vern); nieces and nephews: Candice, Michael (Erin), Carol (Jayson), Byron, Chad, Nicole (Lance), Katherine (Reece), Crystal (Jonathan); great nieces and nephews: Mora, Andrew, Theo, Paige, Logan, Nolan and Linden; uncle John Marriott; as well as numerous other relatives and many dear friends.

Debbie was predeceased by her parents Dick and Irene Irwin; brother Don Irwin and nephew Danny Irwin.

A Private Graveside was held at the Lake View Cemetery, Stettler, Alberta on Friday, April 24, 2026.
