Obituary of Shelley Colleen Streit
Shelley Colleen Streit
February 9, 1976 – January 30, 2026
Shelley Colleen Streit of Mabel Lake, British Columbia, beloved wife of Ronald Thomas Streit, passed away suddenly on January 30, 2026, at the age of 49 years.
Shelley was born on February 9, 1976, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to Bob Roemer and Alannah MacIntyre. Her early years were marked by frequent moves between Nova Scotia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. At the tender age of 13, Shelley entered the child welfare system. By 15, she was living independently in Edmonton — a testament to the resilience and determination that would define her life.
After graduating from MacNally High School in Edmonton, Shelley pursued studies in Social Service and Criminal Justice. It was during this time that she met Bruce Walton. They were married in 1998 and welcomed a son, Chase Walton. Shelley dedicated herself to working with troubled youth, offering the same compassion and guidance she had once needed herself. Following their divorce in 2003, Shelley moved to Leduc, Alberta — and it was there that her next chapter began.
On April 10, 2004, Shelley married Ronald Streit, and together they built a life grounded in love, partnership, and shared dreams. Their son, Wyatt, completed their family.
Shelley’s professional life was marked by courage, entrepreneurship, and heart. She worked in many fields over the years, including the Reman Centre and Insurance, eventually founding her own life insurance company, Guiding Light Financial. In 2013–2014, Shelley and Ron opened Crystal Ranch, a beautiful shop on their property that welcomed visitors from near and far. Later, after moving west of Stettler and eventually settling in Mabel Lake, BC, Shelley worked in accounting before founding her bookkeeping company, On Your Side, in 2022. What began slowly soon flourished. Shelley treated every client with care and respect, becoming not only their bookkeeper but their mentor, teacher, consultant, and friend. She was a natural problem solver who would not rest until things were done right. Her work was her pride, and she leaves an enormous void in the lives of so many.
Shelley was also an author. She courageously shared her story in her book, Beyond the Rearview Mirror, reflecting on her experiences growing up in the system and the pain she overcame with extraordinary strength.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Shelley’s heart was rooted in the simple and beautiful things of life. She loved her horses deeply, and selling Seranita was one of her hardest days. She had a gift for growing flowers — especially gladiolus — tending nearly 2,000 bulbs with pride. She loved baking for those she loved: pies, cakes, cinnamon buns, and cookies that quickly became family favorites.
Shelley had a passion for travel and adventure. She visited Nova Scotia with family, Cuba, Mexico (three times), Washington State, Oregon, Montana, Hawaii, Bali (three times), and Thailand. She cherished camping trips to Mabel Lake with her boys beginning in 2011. Wherever Shelley went, she formed lasting friendships. She had a rare gift for connection and left pieces of her heart in every beautiful place she visited.
Shelley was kind-hearted, fiercely determined, and generous to a fault. She struggled to say no, always pouring herself into helping others solve their problems and improve their lives. She believed she could do anything — and often proved that she could.
Her legacy is one of resilience, compassion, entrepreneurship, and unwavering love for her family and friends. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
Shelley is survived by her loving husband, Ron; sons Chase Walton and Wyatt Streit; father Bob Roemer; mother Alannah MacIntyre; siblings: Jason Roemer, Matt Siba and Shannon Siba; brother-in-law Dean Streit; sister-in-law Lisa (Tim) Duffin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
