Nora Delores Charles

Nora Charles of Stettler passed away peacefully at the Stettler Hospital, Heritage House Long Term Care on January 21, 2026. Nora was born in Castor, Alberta to George and Sarah Bunbury, who were originally from Ireland. She was the eighth of eleven children. In her early years, Nora attended Lauderdale School, a one-room schoolhouse, travelling by horse and buggy or sleigh. She learned to be resilient at a very young age.

Nora married Hugh Charles in 1949. Together, with her loving husband, she spent more than 40 years in the meat sales and processing business, beginning in Castor and later moving to Stettler and Warden. Over the years, they were grateful to work with many wonderful employees and loyal customers.

While helping to manage the business, she raised five children with devotion and was known for her gardening, canning, and baking pies.

Nora had a special love for animals and they loved her in return. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time visiting with friends and family.

In retirement, Nora remained active in the Stettler community. She was involved with the Warden Ladies, the East Central Alberta Heritage Society (Railway), the Buffalo Lake Naturalists Club, Big Valley Wagon Trekking, 4H and Legion events.

Nora was a kind and gentle woman who will be sadly missed by her family and friends

Nora leaves to mourn her passing, her children; Vern (Valerie) Charles, Blane (Lee) Charles, Scott (Gail) Charles and Kathy (Darrell) Carruthers; twenty grandchildren and their spouses; 44 great grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; sisters: Georgina Henderson, Berna Fournier and Connie Gross; brothers-in-law; Allen Charles and Ken (Sheena) Charles; sister-in-law Nora Charles; special friend Janet Campbell; Dr. Chapman and all her numerous caregivers at all three facilities; extended family and many dear friends.

Besides her loving husband Hugh Duncan Charles, Nora was predeceased by her parents Sarah and George Bunbury; son Dwayne Charles; siblings: Lawrence (Leona) Bunbury, Robert (Dortha) Bunbury, Kathy (Ab) Matier, Evelyn Gale, Barney (Eileen) Bunbury, Winnie (Len) Blakely and Tom (Marilyn) Bunbury; siblings-in-law: Herb (Ena) Charles, Margaret (Bert) Jamieson, Paul (Goldie) Charles, Eileen (Dewey) Ward, Jean Charles, Bob Charles and Russell Charles.
