In Loving Memory

Kenneth Reale Perreault

“Ken”

July 7, 1943 ~ November 17, 2025

Kenneth Reale Perreault was born in Galahad on July 7, 1943, to Gene & Wilma Perreault.  He was the first child who was later joined by Sharon, Jeanette, Bob, Audrey, Brenda & finally Donna. In 1948 the growing family moved to the Bulwark area, first at King’s Corner and in 1949 to the Kelly place south of the road from the elevator.

Ken went to school in Bulwark and then to Theresetta Catholic School in Castor. Ken’s father, Gene, had a heart attack at a young age so both Ken & Bob missed a lot of school so they could work on the farm.  After high school he attended business college in Edmonton.

Ken worked for the County of Paintearth and Coronation Seed Cleaning Plant while farming with his Dad & Bob.  In 1973 Gene & Wilma planned to retire and build a new house in Castor.  Gene passed away suddenly in October 1973, so Ken moved into Castor in 1974 with his mother & Donna until the new house was completed.  He lived in town for a few years before moving the trailer out to the farm in the early 1980’s.  He enjoyed developing the yard with the elevator as the focal point.  He planted countless trees and spent hours hoeing and watering them. He enjoyed gardening and planted raspberry bushes and a long row of saskatoons.  Ken moved back to Castor in 2010, a short time after his mother moved into the Lodge.  The duplex was completely furnished and equipped with everything he could possibly need including fine china and crystal for entertaining!

Ken & Bob farmed together for many years. Allen Stauffer, Lonny Nelner & Ross Duncan helped the operation run smoothly. In 1977 Ken & Bob had the Pioneer elevator from Bulwark moved across the road from the main yard.  That was a BIG project and took a few years to complete to Ken’s satisfaction. The elevator was Ken’s pride & joy and for many years he cleaned and dried grain for neighbors as well as for themselves.

Ken was always a farmer at heart, and he wanted to ensure that the farm would carry on for the next generation and so in 1981, Ken and Ross formed the company Bulwark Farms Ltd.  This was a good decision for Ken as Ross & Karen & their children, Michelle and Dustin, soon became a second family to him.  Ross & Karen included him in many family occasions, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Ken was happy and proud to be able to share his farming experience and knowledge with Ross and later on Dustin and his family, as they also became involved in the farming operation and company. This partnership came with many responsibilities as Ken counted on them for support over the years. The Perreault family wishes to thank Ross & Karen for everything they have done for Ken.  We know the last few years were very trying at times.

From 1972 to 1974 Ken was involved in forming Paintearth Gas Co-op. He was the director for Division 6 and also the secretary and on the engineering committee.  Ken was a founding director of the Alberta Canola Association and was also on the board of the Alberta Oat Association for many years.  He was involved with CUSO and spent a winter in Peru in the mid 1970’s, assisting farmers to grow canola.  His experience in Peru was so positive that he later travelled to Costa Rica & bought property there.  He spent several winters enjoying the people and the mild climate of Costa Rica.  In 2023 he made a last trip to Costa Rica.  Ken always planned on going back but it wasn’t meant to be.

Ken was very interested in government and had strong political views. He worked tirelessly for several parties over the years including The Reform & Wildrose Parties. You didn’t want to talk politics with Ken unless you could really back up your position!

In 2023 Ken’s health was deteriorating so the difficult decision to move to the Paintearth Lodge was made.  In January 2024 as his health worsened, he moved to the Nursing Home in Coronation where he received excellent care until his passing on November 17, 2025.

Ken is survived by his siblings: Sharon Hoffart, Jeanette Forrest (John), Robert Perreault (Sandra) and Donna Weseen (Bill); brother-in-law Charles Wiart; former business partners and friends Ross and Karen Duncan; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ken is predeceased by his parents Gene and Wilma Perreault; sisters Brenda Wiart and Audrey Fuller; brothers-in-law Gary Fuller and Frank Hoffart.
