Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Richard Peter Reinbold

1954 ~ 2025

Richard Peter Reinbold, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away surrounded by family on November 11, 2025 at the age of 71 years.

Born on September 10, 1954, in Stettler, Alberta, Richard was the oldest son of Karl and Dora Reinbold, and the first Reinbold grandson of his namesake, Peter Reinbold.

Richard grew up in Stettler, where his family was active at Christ King Catholic Church. As a young boy he served proudly as an altar boy, receiving his First Communion in June 1961 and his Confirmation in June 1964.

He attended Waverley School from kindergarten through grade nine before moving on to William E. Hay High School, where he was a proud member of the Wildcats football team. Richard graduated in 1973.

Following high school, Richard embarked on a farm foreign exchange program that took him to Norway, Sweden, and New Zealand. He returned home with a broadened understanding of agriculture and a lifelong appreciation for the people and places he encountered abroad.

Shortly after returning, Richard met Sue, and the two were married in 1977. Their family grew quickly with the arrival of their sons: Rory in 1978 and Kent in 1979. Together, Richard and Sue built their first farm—an opportunity for Richard to put his exchange experience to work. He constructed a “pork plex” capable of housing eighteen hundred pigs, and after many years of pig farming, the family transitioned into cattle and work in the oil field.

Never one to shy away from learning, Richard attended SAIT and graduated in 1994 with his instrumentation ticket. For the next three decades, he worked at the Nevis Gas Plant and later at Dow Chemicals near Joffre, earning the respect of colleagues and friends alike. He retired at age 65.

Those who knew Richard will remember him contentedly sitting in his garage, a radio playing, a Pilsner in hand, ready to chat about the state of the world. Fridays often came with a phone call—just Rich checking in, sharing a laugh, or offering one of his thoughtful observations.

He cherished time spent at his mother Dora’s home, visiting over tea with his siblings, nieces, and nephews. Outside of work and family, he loved camping and fishing with friends, and he treasured the packing trips into the mountains with the Lost Guide Gang. He enjoyed penning calves at Terry Anderson’s each week—never the best roper, as he’d admit with a grin, but always happy to be on horseback.

For a hardened old farmer at heart, nothing softened Richard more than his four grandchildren: Sydney, Kyra, Ethan, and Lane (“Little Willie”). They brought out a gentleness in him that few had seen before, and he cherished every sleepover, visit, photo, and shared moment.

Richard lived a life rooted in hard work, loyalty, curiosity, and love. His stories, his humor, and his steady presence will be missed beyond measure. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication—to his family, his work, and the land he cared for.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who loved him.

Richard is survived by his loving wife Sue; children Rory (Candace) Reinbold and Kent Reinbold; grandchildren:  Sydney (Louis Halbgewachs) Reinbold, Ethan Reinbold, Lane Reinbold and Kyra Reinbold; siblings: Joan Reinbold, Audrey Keast, Marilyn (Henry) Postma, Christine (Darren McCook) Reinbold, Fred (Denise) Reinbold and Maurice (Colleen) Reinbold; as well as numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and many dear friends.

Richard was predeceased by his parents Karl and Dora Reinbold and sisters Irene Larsen and Denise Chapman.
