Obituary of Douglas Robert Stanger

Douglas Robert Stanger August 31, 1937 ~ October 14, 2025

Doug Stanger passed away peacefully surrounded by his children at Heritage House in Stettler, Alberta. Doug lived a full and happy life filled with laughter and memories.

He was a proud second generation farmer.  He farmed and raised livestock on the family farm near Munson. He always preferred cattle over grain farming.  Doug was an avid volunteer for organizations such as the Drumheller Passion Play and once served  as chairperson and founding member. He was involved with 4H his entire life as a board member and supporting his children in their 4”H clubs.  Doug enjoyed volunteering with his church, and community groups.. He enjoyed many sports, and  watching his children and grandchildren play.  He was often the loudest at Matthew’s hockey games!   He loved to play baseball and later watched the Blue Jays in his retirement.

Doug was a person who loved to be on the road, going to cattle sales, looking at the condition of crops, and anything else going on in the rural community.  His second home was cattle auction markets-he loved being apart of the auctions and enjoying Alberta raised beef!

Doug leaves to mourn and remember him: son Doug and granddaughters Evelyn, and Mary; daughter Heather (David) grandchildren Matthew (Gillian) and Nicole (Andrew); son Craig and granddaughter Angelina (Caleb); brother Norman (Pat); Vickie, Robert and Rodney and their families.

Doug was predeceased by his wife Lorraine in January of 2025, his first wife Carolyn in May, 1998, Parents Phyllis in 1983 and Bob in 1992.

He will be missed by many friends and family in Stettler and Drumheller areas. Doug made friends with anyone that he met and enjoyed a laugh and sharing stories.

Funeral Service will be held

Friday, October 24, 2025 at 2:00pm.

in the Munson Community Hall.
