Susan Ann Miles

“Sue”

1946 ~ 2025

Susan Ann "Sue" Miles passed away on July 2, 2025 at the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre at the age of 79 years.

Sue was born on April 22, 1946, in Edmonton, Alberta, Sue was adopted at birth by Harold (Red) and Anna Belle Brodie. From an early age, her life was filled with travel, adventure, and a love for the outdoors. She spent six memorable months living in Hawaii during her sixth-grade year, where she learned to surf and continued a lifelong love for horses. Later, she and her brother, John, attended boarding school in Switzerland while their parents traveled through Africa.

Back in Edmonton, Sue's passion for horses continued, especially through her bond with her horse, Bud. She graduated from Strathcona Composite High School, where she met the love of her life, Moe Miles. They married on February 24, 1968, and built a beautiful life together rooted in family, community, and shared adventure.

Sue and Moe adopted their daughter, Christi, in 1972 and welcomed their son, Colby, in 1974. The family moved to Stettler in 1975, where Sue flourished as a loving mother and homemaker. As her children grew, Sue began working at the local drycleaners before joining Moe to open M & M Music, a family-run business that brought joy to many in the community.

Later, Sue worked at Elephants in the Attic, where she connected with a group of women who became her lifelong circle of soul sisters. Her path of personal growth and service expanded as she became a certified Reiki master and practitioner of various energy healing arts. With her intuitive presence and gentle hands, Sue brought comfort and peace to many.

Sue’s heart for service extended into the community. She and Moe volunteered with the Stettler Food Bank for several years. More recently, Sue served on the board of the Stettler Society for the Prevention of Family Violence, driven by her passion to make the world safer and more compassionate. She was also a dedicated member of Thrive Gym, where she met regularly with a group of friends to exercise, enjoy coffee, and strengthen another circle of meaningful connection.

Throughout their life together, Sue and Moe shared a love for the open road. As founding members of the Foothills Fhantoms motorcycle club, they journeyed thousands of kilometres on their Honda Goldwing, traveling the winding sideroads of western North America. The bonds and memories formed on these rides were among the most treasured of their lives.

More than anything, Sue was a devoted mother and grandmother. She poured her heart into the lives of her grandchildren—Caleb, Gabe, Dom, Ryan, and Nyah—as well as her heart-adopted grandchildren, Rachel and Julia Dietrich. From cheering on soccer games and attending graduations, to holiday dinners and trips to Fernie, Sue was always there, offering her unwavering support and love.

Sue will be remembered for her boundless kindness, intuitive wisdom, gentle strength, and the deep love she gave to everyone lucky enough to know her. She was a healer, nurturer, guide, and light in the lives of so many.

Sue is survived by husband Moe Miles; children Christi (Richard) White and Colby (Kelly) Miles; grandchildren: Ryan, Nyah, Caleb and Domonic; brother John Brodie; half sister Margo (Dennis) Smith; chosen family Melissa Dietrich and daughters Rachel and Julia; as well as other relatives and many dear friends.

Sue was predeceased by parents Harold (Red) and Anna Belle Brodie and grandson Gabe Miles.
