Obituary of Ryan Joseph Dummett
Ryan Joseph Dummett
1984 ~ 2025
Ryan Joseph Dummett of Coronation, beloved father, son, brother and friend, died suddenly on June 18th , 2025, at the age of 41 years.
On January 10th, 1984, the Coronation Hospital happily announced the birth of the first baby born in the New Year. Ryan was the first child born to parents Brian and Laurene and was raised on the Percy Paull homestead southwest of Coronation. From a young age, Ryan helped out on the family farms, as most farm kids do. Ryan also spent a lot of time over at the original family homestead helping his great uncle Kenneth.
Ryan attended Coronation School from kindergarten until his grade 12 Graduation in 2003. During his school years and early years after graduation, Ryan gained a lot of work experience in many fields of work in agriculture and the oilfield. From working at Ramseys, to pipelining, running equipment, well testing and then swamping for NWP. This eventually brought him up to Grande Prairie, AB working as a swamper until he obtained his class one licence.
Grande Prairie offered a lot of new opportunities to meet people from all over Canada where he made lifetime friendships. Some of these friends were a part of an off-roading group that Ryan loved that was called "Pisst n Broke Offroad Club" Ryan owned many Chev 4x4s built for mudbogging and backwoods style camping.
Ryan was surrounded by many musically talented friends and family and eventually learned in his spare time how to play the guitar and ukulele. Most of his family and friends will recall him playing along with YouTube videos of mostly rock music such as Stevie Nicks, Smokie, Dr Hook, and of course the Travelling Wilburys and some old school country.
When Ryan wasn’t working, camping, road tripping, bonfires with friends or playing music, you could find him in the kitchen baking bread, buns, cinnamon buns, cookies or trying new wood smoker recipes, or homemade sauces.
For the majority of Ryans driving career he was in the oilfield in Northern Alberta but was given the opportunity to haul Ore for Arrow Transport out of Ashcroft, British Columbia. Ryan often spoke fondly of his time working for Arrow, as well as the winters in Ashcroft because they weren't near as cold as they are in the prairies.
Ashcroft is also where the new journey of fatherhood began when his daughter Sierra was born in 2017. With newfound parenthood came the decision to move back to Alberta to be closer to family and the community he knew and grew up in.
From the moment Sierra came into his life, she lit up his world. Every laugh, every hug, every quiet moment together was a treasure to him. Ryan loved every minute with her whether they were playing, talking, or just sitting side by side. To Ryan, being her dad was the greatest gift he had ever been given. His face would light up just at the sound of her voice. In her presence, he was his truest self — full of joy, patience, and wonder. She was his heart walking outside of his body, and he cherished every second of their journey together.
Ryan purchased the home that belonged to his late great grandmother on Windsor Avenue and lived there until his untimely passing.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations in memory of Ryan may be made to any Mental Health charity or to a charity of your choice.
