Obituary of Dwain Nickolas Gelech
Dwain Nickolas Gelech
1959 ~ 2025
It is with profound sadness that the family of Dwain Gelech announce his sudden passing on May 7, 2025 at the age of 65 years.
Dwain was born in Worsley, Alberta on December 13, 1959 to loving parents George and Verna Gelech. He attended school in Worsley and enjoyed his childhood on the family farm. He had many fond memories of adventures (and some misadventures) with his siblings and cousins growing up.
On June 27, 1987, he married his wife Beverly on her family farm in Delia, Alberta. They lived there for a short time before buying their first home in Stettler. Dwain had a long career working for ATCO as a power lineman before retiring in 2020.
Soon after moving to Stettler, Dwain and Bev started a family, eventually moving to an acreage with their two young daughters. Dwain passed his love of horses on to both of his daughters. He was an avid follower of their 4H and barrel racing, affectionately earning the nickname “Gate Guy” to all that he helped.
With his love of horses came many trips to the mountains with friends, the creation of the “Lost Guide Gang,” and too many nights around the campfire to count. Dwain was an avid hunter, always looking forward to the next hunting season.
Later in life, Dwain became a devoted grandparent. He rarely missed a hockey game or sporting event. He could be found pushing a swing for hours, jumping on the trampoline, or fixing a quad in preparation of the next visit. “Papa Dwain” will be greatly missed by his smallest admirers.
Dwain will be remembered by his loving wife Bev; daughters Alyssa (Mark) Molendyk and Lindsey (Jordan) Dyck; son Robert Gelech; grandchildren Ava, Levi, Watson, Dominick, Kaden and Abigail; sisters Judy Obrigewitch, Kathy Dumas, Cindy (Barry) Dibb and Janet Gelech; brother Gene (Doreen) Gelech; parents George and Verna Gelech; father-in-law Leon VanHecke; other family and many friends.
Dwain is predeceased by brother Ricky Gelech and mother-in-law Viola VanHecke.
There will be a Private Family Service
