Obituary of Dorothy Elizabeth Bussey
Dorothy “Dot” Elizabeth Mary (May) Benz Bussey
November 8, 1929 ~ March 5, 2025
Dorothy was born in Daysland on November 8, 1929, to Ernest and Katherine May. Dorothy lived on the farm at Strome with her siblings Rodney, Clayton and Gladys. It is with sad hearts we announce Dorothy’s passing, on March 5, 2025.
Dorothy married Harold Benz. They had six daughters and lived in Rosalind, Round Hill, Galahad and Stettler. Mom worked in the Hospital in Galahad as a cleaner. Dorothy was an excellent cook. On the days she baked, our house was very popular with all the kids in the neighborhood coming and asking for a treat. We also had a big Sunday dinner for friends and family. Everyone left with full stomachs and happy memories. Harold Benz died in 1985.
After dad’s passing, Dorothy worked in the Stettler hospital as a Sanitary Technician (HaHa) where she met John at work. Dorothy married John Bussey in 1985 and added six more kids to the mix. Dorothy became ‘Mom and Grandma’ to his children and grandchildren. John’s family always phoned and sent flowers and visited often even though they were in Manitoba and British Columbia.
Dorothy is survived by children: Heather Weeks, Terry (Gord) Schlaht, Sherry (Gord) Keith, June (Harry) Magee, Lynda (Dennis) Kowall, Will Bussey, Donald (Sue) Bussey, Janet (John McEntee, Barb (Vic) Langford and Brenda (Rod) Adkinson; grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren: Kimberly (Ron) Gagne, Jordan and Alex; Tegan and Kenton; Charlie Ponto; Marc (Erica) Weeks, Amira and Lochlan; Joelle (Jim) Kleiner, Ava and Jonas; Corey Keith; Patrick (Stephanie) Keith, Owen and Karen; Bradley Keith, Isaac; Megan (Jason) Johnson, Broc, Lucia and Cora; Candice Magee; Shaun (Tara) Magee, Tyler, Brooklyn, Darian, and Tristan; Rob (Jill) Kowall; Cheryl (Randy) Staples; Jennifer (Marco) Strauss; Jamie (Jen) Bussey; Jennifer (Sean) Williams; Karen Roy, Nolan, Brock and Cutter; Caitlin Langford, Ian Langford; and children of Donald (Sue) Bussey, Stephanie, Kenneth, Krystal, Wayne and Billy.
Dorothy is predeceased by husbands Harold Benz and John Bussey; infant daughter Lynn Marie; daughter Beverly Ann; siblings: Rodney May, Clayton May and Gladys MacKinnon; son-in-law Brian Weeks.
Mom was a very warm caring person who loved to sew, paint and do puzzles, but most of all, she loved spending time with her large family.
Thanks to Heritage House for the excellent care during Dorothy’s stay; to Dr. Agwaze as well as other doctors, nurses and care staff at the Stettler Hospital & Care Center; to Paragon and Willow Creek Lodges.
We appreciate all the well wishes, cards and flowers received and for the compassionate services of Stettler Funeral Home and Crematorium, at this very difficult time.
