It was with much sadness that we learned of the passing of John. He was a compassionate, friendly man who always had time to stop to chat with us. He was always interested in what we were doing and relating information about his family, his travels and his golf game. He was justly proud of his three daughters Marina, Lorna and Sandra and their children. He will be missed by them and his community. Our condolences to Loreen, Lorna, Sandra and their families. Love Jim, Bridie, Kathleen & Gerard Forde

Sandra has been a dear friend of mine for over 30 years and a beautiful soul clearly raised by beautiful souls. During that time, she has shared so many tender stories of “Mom and Dad” I felt I knew them. I trust that you are all finding time and strength to share more of John with each passing day and to experience all that those memories bring with gentleness. This time is hard but, “to live in the hearts of those we leave behind is never to die”.

Hi Loreen,
So sorry for your loss. I was your paper boy back in the late 1980s, think I was about 11. It was just after New Years when I started, and it was super cold out and about my first week on the job John spotted me coming up the driveway to deliver the paper and he greeted me at the door and invited me in to warm up and interrogate the new guy. Must have spent 15 minutes talking to me, was so friendly I couldn't get away from him, and later had to explain to mom why I was late meeting her for pick up. It left an impression on me over the years, to engage everyone you see, regardless of age or position in life. May you and your family find solace in your cherished memories with him.

John and I enjoyed many rounds of golf together at the Stettler Golf & Country Club. He was a real sportsman; never showing any frustration with his golf, I used to refer to him as "Pipeline Moe Norman", because he always hit his tee shot straight down the middle. He seldom would "duff" any of his shots. Beyond that, he always had a cheerful disposition and a great sense of humour.

I knew John and Lorreen for many years. I enjoyed the many times I golfed with John over the years. The best I can ever say about one of my old friends is that he was true gentleman. One of my fondest memories is years ago my oldest childhood friend from Brooks walked with John and me for several holes in a flight playoff. After one of us finally won a hole my friend said he did not think either one of us really cared about who won. It was always a pleasure to spend time with John
My sincere condolences.
