Obituary
Dorothy Hartel
March 27, 1937 ~ October 20, 2026
Dorothy Hartel passed away peacefully with her family by her side on October 20, 2026, at Coronation Long Term Care.
Dorothy was the second oldest of 18, born to Fred and Margaret Highton on March 27, 1937. They lived on the family farm in Robinhood, Saskatchewan.
Dorothy met Harvey Hartel in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, where they were married on April 11, 1958.
First born child August, was born September 12, 1958, and Joanne was born September 12, 1959, in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. In November of 1959, the family moved to Rivercourse, Alberta. Karen was born in 1960 in Lloydminster. A year later, they moved to Lone Rock, Saskatchewan, where they lived for six years. In 1961 Glen was born, in 1962 Valerie was born, and in 1964 Colleen completed the family, all being born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. In 1966, the family made the move to Lashburn, Saskatchewan. In 1972 the family then made their final move to Coronation.
In 1973 Dorothy went to work at the Coronation Hospital as a cook in the kitchen. She worked until her retirement at age 65.
Dorothy always loved to sew. After she retired, she had more time to do what she loved. She began making quilts for her grandchildren and then her great-grandchildren. She was always thinking of who else she could gift with one of her famous quilts.
She started baking bread when she was very young on the farm. She continued to bake bread every week for her family and friends. (It was the best.)
She had a heart of gold, the love in her quilts will continue to warm her loved ones and the smell and taste of her bread will be long remembered. She had a beautiful way of making everyone around her feel loved and appreciated. Her kindness was genuine, her generosity came naturally, and she always found room in her heart for others. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her caring nature, and the love she so freely shared.
Dorothy is survived by her loving children: August (Sandra) Hartel, Karen Williamson (Greg Scheffelmaier), Glen (Kerry) Hartel,
